Does it bother you when companies advertise to be from your area only to have an 800 number pointing to another state not even remotely close to you.
I'm not talking about companies who advertise that they can work in whatever state, I'm talking about companies who say they have an office or a presence, and they have neither, or they have a business center rented out with 100 other companies (literally) where you pay per meeting or pay per hour of the person typing, etc.
I've noticed that there are a few companies (I won't name them, but if you've been around awhile, you know who they are) who say they have offices in lots of different places and they really don't, and never have.
I wont say it bothers me but it is certainly interesting that they don't have an office but act like they do. If their customers don’t see a problem with that, I guess it is okay.
Thanks for the reply Indy50, are you working in the Private area now?
Something like when you are a Private Investigator, who specializes in Computer Forensics, and every other PI out there advertises on their website that they perform CF, in addition to every other function known to man.
I suspect the day that companies stop discounting an idividual because he works from home, or because he isn't in the same state ( although willing to travel as part of his quote ) will be the day that people stop faking offices & numbers -)
I've an interesting middle ground - I have an office building which takes my post, my calls _and_ provides me with meeting rooms & work rooms if I need them, but predominantly I work from client site or home, I have an 0845 no ( not quite 800 - but non-geographical ) and that works well. Not that in the UK we have quite the same problems of distance ! You have states the size of our country ! 😉

Nope… Still local gov. There is not much market for CF in the area.
