Can anybody tell me the best way to image the Ibook G4?? I tried taking it apart to remove the hard drive but it is nearly impossible, so I thought I would just use a boot disk. I can't get that to work..I've tried using raptor and I can't get it to boot into Raptor. Any suggestions?

(TDM) Target disk mode should work on a G4

Sometimes the lens is dirty on the intern cd or dvd player on older computers/laptops, try an external dvd player or usbstick to boot raptor.
It has worked for me )

Yeah, I think the old G4 laptops were all assembled from the HDD out, where practically the last screw holds the HDD in place.

If you ARE interested in the tear-down of any Apple product then ifixit.com shows how to disassemble and reassemble items such as the iBook.

The big skill of a G4 is to put the drive back, reassemble the case, and then count the number of screws left on the bench.

Amen to that! First time I did it I had 3 screws left over so I took it apart and put it back together again, found that I then had 5 screws left over.

That's when I started using iFixit as reference.

You can use MacQuisition to boot a licensed version of Mac OS X and use simple GUI interface to image the drives in a forensically sound and safe manner. This is our recommended method before Firewire Target Mode, or even removing the drive. Because it boots Mac OS X you are sure to have all the proper drivers, etc. This is especially true with Apple RAID devices if you encounter any.
