I want to delete them if its possible. Do you know of any sofware (preferably free!) to do this
Nope. Not free and not professional.
You might end up deleting all of your data on the hard drive along with just the stuff you want deleted.
A suggestion would be that you purchase a new hard drive, copy just the information you want onto the new drive. You can, or should be able to get a local computer shop to transfer your programs to the new hard drive without any problem.
Then there are programs that will "shred" all data, active or inactive, slack, unallocated, etc. on that hard drive. If you can't find one free on the internet you might purchase one. should cost much. But it needs to be a 'shredder program". Or, find a huge, powerful magnet and let the hard drive sit on the magnet.
Of you can always send it to us to wipe clean. We don't look at anything and are bound by confidentiality. We will do it for free if we can keep the hard drive to use for parts.
Thanks for you help forensics!

Don't be fooled by thinking that this is getting everything. This only gets the obvious stuff. There are other places to look for information that these tools may not wipe or never wipe.
Great information, but pretty much like I said. It takes professionals like ourselves to guarantee the complete destruction of the information.
has this forum changed to www.anti-forensicfocus.com??
i was thinking the same thing…

Using Eraser is good enough, especially if you use DOD level wiping. To my knowledge there are no recorded cases of anyone being able to recover any meaningful information from a properly wiped drive.
Eraser will wipe unallocated space on a hard drive without affecting the existng files on the computer. Of course there is a funner way of wiping. If you're in Windows you can create a batch file that creates a new text file, then loop writing to the text file. Once the drive is full delete the file.
If you check out the unallocated space on my hard drive most of it will read "HA HA! There's nothing here. Nice try!".
Yes, I'm a geek (hangs head in shame).
