Hello,

We seen in the past week a small number of iOS devices going into some kind of verification mode (similar to MDM) where the examiner/ technician is working through an SOP, when suddently the iOS device (seen on OS 9.x & 10.x, and on difference machines) reboots & shows the hello screen once the passcode has been enterned.

Im trying to figure out whats going on as the devices have been isolated at all times, and it is a possibility that the the number of powering on/off cycles without a connection could be the cause?

I presume that whatever you are doing is triggering the factory reset, that's all.

Is it in a faraday bag?
Sim card out of the phone?
No public wifi to connect to?
In airplane mode?

Could it be getting the remote wipe signal? What tool are you using to image the phone ect.

Phones were isolated from the airtime provider and the wipe signal could not have reached the devices.

Faraday bags, SIM removal & WiFi off on all affected devices.

Important question - how long has the device been held? Is it a recent seizure or is it an old one?
