I am wondering the same thing. I just finished setting up all of the JZ tools and the iPad is one of them. Today I place an order for a few Apple products and an iPad was one of them.

Is there any other tools that will image the iPad besides JZ and without being jailbroken?

Iphone Insecurity (using the Zdziarski method) claims to technically not jailbreak the device. You can read more on their site www.iphoneinsecurity.com/.

We've used this on our test iPad and have been able to get a disk image, but we did have some errors we couldn't quite resolve.

You need to think about what it is you want to achieve from the examination.

The easiest method IMHO is to use XRY to obtain the "user" area that contains information that the user would be able to modify.

If you want to do a full disk copy of this then I would recommend the Jonanthon Zdziarski methods.

Someone also mentioned to me that you can use Cellebrite UFED to do a full disk copy but I have not seen or ever tried this.
