Hi,

Just got an iPhone 3G thats completely missing the front of it! I know that if you plug the phone in ( a working one!) you can take a dump from it, without any user interaction, but do you know if you need a screen present? It could be a case that the phone is completely fried and may not work anyway!

Other than using a donor, and to be honest, I can't see many people stepping up to let their beloved jesusPhone be split in two! ) I can't see any way around it?

Any thoughts, ideas are welcome and appreciated!

Perhaps you could try just replacing the screen and touchscreen?

Replacement Touch Screen

Replacement LCD Screen

Much cheaper than buying a full phone to harvest parts from, assuming there is no damage to the main logic board.

Do you have a cable for it 4Rensics?

You could connect it to a machine and see if it is listed in Device Manager (or System Profiler on a Mac)

We ended up just plugging it into a PC with iTunes via the normal cable (was originally trying Cellebrite) and it popped up and it alive and working…but with the distinct lack of screen, there is no way to enter the PIN that is being requested.

Is there any way around this?

Thanks

If the device is seen by the computer, I think you could use the Zdziarski Method. I don't think you need to use the screen to do this, however I may be wrong.

If it asks you to put it into DFU mode then having a screen is no advantage. Obviously it would be an advantage (but not essential) to have a screen if it is asking you to put it into recovery mode.

Yeah, You don't really need to see anything on the screen while you're JZ'ing it.

Thanks for all the replies.

I had a quick read over the Zdziarski Method and it seems like it could be the one that works. Whether there is enough time and its worth checking that phone is another thing now. But now for future reference we know there is a way around an iPhone with a broken screen!

Thanks again.
