Hello all,
I have an iPhone 4s to acquire photos and video files from. The iPhone 4s is permanently disabled. I have tried "bypass iPhone disabled" using Gecko iPhone Toolkit Rev 0.1 with the iPhone 4s in DFU mode. It didn't work. The message basically stated couldn't bind to port 2022.
I am suspecting that Gecko iPhone Toolkit Rev 0.1 may not be able to "bypass iPhone disabled" for iPhone 4s. Is there a later edition of Gecko iPhone Toolkit or another program that will "bypass iPhone disabled" for iPhone 4s please?
I have found information online that Cellebrite UFED will do this but only allow a hardcopy of the data contents to be retrieved. Is there any truth in this information? It came up a couple of times online.
I have a signed Consent to Search Electronic Media. It's not a legal matter but recovery of data from an iPhone 4s that was involved in a car accident where the iPhone 4s user died in the car accident. The owner of the iPhone 4s is engaging my Cell Phone Forensic Services. I am now looking for solutions without using iTunes in the recovery mode that will loose the needed photos and video files that are not backed up.
Any input is highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Peter,
I recently had a similar situation. UFED Touch cannot bypass a disabled phone and I am not sure if there is a tool that can.
Do you have access to the computer that the iPhone was backed up too? If so then you can retrieve the data from the backup folder.
OSX ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/"
Win 7 \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Hell all,
I am trying to recover photos and video from the iPhone 4s that is disabled because they are not available from an iTunes backup.
I will get back to the posts regarding Cellebrite UFED and those contacts and speak with someone who has done extensive work with Cellebrite UFED before I put the lid on this one.
With future developments who knows what capability may come along as well.
Any further input is appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello Badgerau,
Thank you for your reply. Have you ever tried restoring an iPhone 4s with a red disabled screen in recovery mode using iTunes without an iTunes backup, then acquiring the restored iPhone 4s with Cellebrite UFED to attempt to obtain deleted data from the earlier device state?
Many times I reinstall fresh computer systems operating software on computer drives and with some Digital Forensic Tools, I can recover deleted data from the earlier disk state off the same disk because the disk was never overwritten.
Any input is appreciated.
Thank you.

iPhones are completely different animals than computers. Even if you could get a dump of the free space from the 4S, it's encrypted anyways. Carving is not really an option on these phones because of that.
Furthermore, it you reinstall the iOS on this phone, it will wipe out the current keychain and create a new one, rendering all data encrypted and thus unrecoverable for most likely ever.
Thank you Dizi357 for your input. It's appreciated. I confirm my research and contact with other Cell Phone Forensic Investigators confirmed the same.
With the assistance I got with this as a learner, I must state that the Cell Phone Forensics community was a pleasure to communcate with.
Thank you and make it a great day to all.

The ability to unlock iPhones disappeared on the release of the 4s. You also had the ability to create a physical image and recover data uncluding deleted. Unfortunately any later models have no bypass option. No code no data. Even if you did have the code you may not be able to recover the data you want as you can only get a logical extraction.
Cheers )

If you forgot your iPhone pass-code you can bypass the lock screen completely and reset the pass code by using iPhone recovery mode.
Warning This will require you to restore your iPhone or iPod touch, this means you’ll lose all data on the device and be back to factory settings.
Bypass & Reset the iPhone Pass-code
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, leave the other end connected to your Mac/PC
Launch iTunes
Press and hold the Home and Power button on the top of the iPhone to turn off the device
Press and continue to hold the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to your iPhone, this will cause the iPhone to turn on
Continue to hold the Home button until an alert message in iTunes appears that an iPhone in recovery mode has been detected
Now that the iPhone is in recovery mode, you must restore the device
From iTunes, look under the “Summary” tab
Click on the “Restore” button within iTunes
This will wipe all files, settings, and apps from the iPhone, including the pass-code. When the restore is finished, the iPhone will be at the factory settings. At this point you can choose to start from scratch or to restore the iPhone from a backup.
