Are you asking for some sort of review? If so, most would say the iPhone 5 is no great leap in technology. However, it does boast a fantastic camera and it does feel much lighter. The downside is still that it is impossible to upgrade memory size and it is much less customizable than other popular phone models like Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Bionic. I have heard of recent manufacturing malfunctions, but you would expect Apple to clean that up in the next few months. I have an iPhone 4S and don't see the need to get the iPhone 5. Its more of a status symbol than anything, unless you don't currently have a smart phone.

With it does come the problem of the A6 chip.
What that means for the industry is that there will be a lot more phones on the market that we are unable to obtain a forensically sound physical of, or bypass a passcode.

It also means that software makers have given up on the A5/A5X chips in favour of the new one. Not good going forward

Quite true- I recently updated our UFED Cellebrite Physical & note no Physical memory option for a iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S-currently & apart from file-system dumping memory on these phones, a full bit-for-bit forensic copy is a bit limited, only for previous models.

Bypassing the passcode is possible- if the suspect is not willing to give it up or the phone is from someone deceased, after speaking to a law enforcement contact in Apple, a warrant can be sent to Apple and once approved, they would take the exhibit and bypass the passcode, on an individual basis & is only done at Apple HQ in California. The hows/whys and means of doing this is something they wouldn't exactly be willing to pass on.

Do you have experience with Apple for this?

I know BlackBag Technologies works closely with Apple and are based in Cupertino. They have some of the best iPhone forensics software out there. I would suggest to you to check with them and see if they have those capabilities in any of their new softwares. Apple often uses their services to crack phones and the two work together to accomplish some of the high tech security processes.

No one has a solution for password locked iPhone 5 (and 4S and iPad2,3)

Cellebrite UFED is the first to support iPhone 5 with logical and file system extraction.

Currently no way to bypass the handset lock with these tools for iPhone 4S (A1387, A1431)& iPhone 5 (A1428 & A1429)- due to chipset design of placing the unbreakable AES encryption on the physical processor itself.

Only Apple themselves can do this & is kicked off as a court order warrant by law enforcement agency only

iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Passcode Bypass Procedure

The unlocking of an iOS device is only performed at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA. In order to perform the unlocking of the device, Apple requires a search warrant or court order containing the following language

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“It is hereby ordered that Apple Inc. assist law enforcement agents conduct the search of one Apple iPhone Telephone, Model #_______, on the _______ network with access number (phone number) _________, serial number __________, and FCC ID#_____________ (the "Cell Phone");
It is hereby further ordered that Apple shall provide reasonable technical assistance to enable law enforcement agents to obtain access to unencrypted data ("Data") on the Cell Phone. It is further ordered that, to the extent that data on the Cell Phone is encrypted, Apple may provide a copy of the encrypted data to law enforcement but Apple is not required to attempt to decrypt, or otherwise enable law enforcement's attempts to access any encrypted data.

Apple's reasonable technical assistance may include, but is not limited to, bypassing the Cell Phone user's passcode so that the agents may search the Cell Phone, extracting data from the Cell Phone and copying the data onto an external hard drive or other storage medium that law enforcement agents may search, or otherwise circumventing the Cell Phone's security systems to allow law enforcement access to Data and to provide law enforcement with a copy of encrypted data stored on the Cell Phone.

Although Apple shall make reasonable efforts to maintain the integrity of data on the Cell Phone, Apple shall not be required to maintain copies of any user data as a result of the assistance ordered herein; all evidence preservation shall remain the responsibility of law enforcement agents.”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

If you decide that you would like Apple to unlock the device, please send a draft of the search warrant or court order to Apple for review.

It is important to include the serial number and the IMEI number for the device on the search warrant or court order.

Also, please see http//support.apple.com/kb/HT1267 for more information.

Once Apple has reviewed the search warrant or court order with the correct language, the search warrant or court order will need to be signed by a judge and re-submitted to Apple. Please make sure that the name of the judge on the search warrant is clear and legible in order for the paperwork to be completed.

Please do not send the device to Apple until we advise you to do so.

After an internal approval process, we will contact you to schedule an appointment for the passcode bypass. We recommend that the device be delivered in person, because of a potential loss through shipping.

That can't be correct. How will 99.9% of all people take it there in person?

Or will some company open shop there and be a courier service for additional $$$
