By advertising what spec ops recovered, they also told AQ that their operating procedure wasn't being followed. If they had kept their mouths shut, maybe AQ would have assumed all was well.

Regardless, I don't see a benefit to the US by blabbing about it.

Depends on your perspective I guess
- AQ gets the message "all plans & info have been compromised!"
- Old plans are scratched, new ones have to be made
- Old procedures have to be scratched, new ones have to be developed
- Some people are considered to be compromised, so they need replacements

All these things costs AQ time, and allow for new mistakes to be made.
And there's the propaganda issue, of course )

Furthermore, with the release of this information, the myth that Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden is some highly religious figure, or that he was fighting because/for Islam is further erodes.

Well, I doubt that actual followers of AQ would trust *ANYTHING* the US have said, are saying and will ever say on the matter. roll

I am a new person to FF. However, has anyone questioned if the "pron" was left there deliberately?

<devil's advocate>

(1) Pron being left on a computer to "discover" and "discredit" the leader was deliberately left. The action was performed actually to discredit anyone that is said to have found said computer.
(2) Who is to say that OBL was the one that actually used the computer? Perhaps it was used by a underling to insulate OBL from "evil technology".
(3) The computer system and contents were nothing more than RED HERRINGS designed to disseminate false data.

</devil's advocate>

None of us has / or will be able to examine the actual system logs, data structures, etc…. We can only hope that the data is real and relevant.

Agreed. Hard core AQ would immediately presume it false. I was thinking of those borderline interests.

I also think that the AQ watches everything and takes extreme amount of details.

Remember OBL quoted various TV broadcasts, politicians speeches, etc.
