iTunes restore and update - Recovering data

Hello,

I'm still new in forensic area. Whit everyday learning I'm getting new ideas and questions. Maybe someone already has experience with the following example

eg

In a iPhone we do restore and update whit software iTunes. So after restoring is there any possibility to recover lost data from iPhone?

I have to two option in my head

1.) Try to recover whit program for recovering data for iOS sisytem
2.) Other option mount iPhone whit iExplorer and then try to recover whit program for HDD recover.

Unfortunately I do not have option to check if any of the options works. Therefore, I I'm aking if any of the above cases it works.

If someone know some other option I will be very happy if you will shering whit me. )
