Hopefully someone can help me out that is way smarty then I.

I am using JZ tools for forensic examination of iphones. I recently used the new AutomatedTools_20120105 and successfully used the recover-filesystem.sh to get the whole file system.

My problem lies in what occurred after the program worked. It booted the phone up again; however, it booted it into Recovery mode. I have powered down the phone and still boots into Recovery mode.

My issue is that I need to look at the alarm settings as part of this homicide investigation and now I can't get back into the phone. I understand the user data has not been lost; however, I have some brass breathing down my neck to fix the problem.

I am using the tools on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JDiamond,

Do you have Elcomsoft available? One thing you could try is putting the device into DFU mode, loading the Elcomsoft exploit onto the handset, and then selecting the 'Reboot device' function from the menu. That should allow the handset to reboot normally (I know it requires using another exploit but it might work). I have tried this before with an iPhone 3GS and it worked. Even though the device is stuck in recovery mode you should still be able to put it into DFU mode.

Unfortunately I do not use JZTools enough for me to comment on how you would fix this particular problem using them. I would recommend contacting Jonathan Zdziarski for technical support.
