Geared more towards a "hacking" tool, but one could just as easily convert this into one mean forensics tool as well.

Katana allows you to install additional distros (DEFT, SWIFT, etc.) by using Forge and have a one stop shop USB drive with all your distros on one disk. I guess you could even put it on DVD, but would be limited by space.

http//www.hackfromacave.com/articles_and_adventures/katana_v2_release.html

Standard installs on the disk Backtrack, Ultimate Boot CD, Ultimate Boot CD for Windows, Ophcrack Live, Puppy Linux, CAINE, Trinity Rescue Disk, Clonezilla, Kon-Boot, and Derik's Boot and Nuke

There is also a full list of tools here http//www.hackfromacave.com/portableapps.html

Once nice thing is you can run some of the apps directly off the USB drive even without booting from it. It acts similar to a U3 device in that manner.

Anyway, I thought some of you might enjoy this.

There is a program called Multisystem on linux that does the same. I created a USB disk with a dozen or so ISO's, but haven't tried them out yet.

What I like about Katana is the portable apps built into it. It's great. Heck you can even run Sleuth Kit from the portable App menu. They have about 20 or so forensic specific apps to run off the portable apps, plus a few registry ones. Good stuff. I think you guys will like it.

Another project worth trying is SARDU lots of images can be easily added with the internal downloader/installer and custom ones can be configured via configuration file.
