I am currently involved in the investigation of a complex case regarding kidnap. I've received dozens of exhibits containing tens of thousands of emails and documents of which I (and the case officer) do not have the time to sift through individually. I have a list of around 30 keywords which I have used after indexing everything in FTK, however just from skimming though some of the hits I can see that plenty are irrelevant.

Does any one have recommendations for any products that could help rank relevance of artefacts and possibly suggest realtionships? I've had a brief look at i2, could that be recommended?

Try checking out this web site http//www.tiburoninc.com/solutions/crimeanalysis.asp I haven't used the software myself but did see it demo'd last year. The software does "link analysis", giving graphic displays of the relationships between entities in a complex investigation. For example, USER A emailed User B and User D. User B emailed User A and User C. It will run standalone or they also have an Encase plug-in module that will integreate with data inside Encase. It's been awhile since I was at the demo, so I'm having trouble recalling everything the software did. But I remember thinking it would be a very handy tool to have for large scale investigations.
