I have a thumbs.db- "shell thumbnail cache" file which details has file names that have been downloaded/previewed/incomplete files (IIC) with modified dates.

Can anyone shed some light on the significance of these files and if they are related directly to Limewire.

Thanks

If you have EnCase, you can parse this file (it is actually a OLE Compound File, and hence you can view its "internal file structure) to achieve a deeper understanding of the files refered by Thumbs.db.

If you don't have EnCase, you could try MiTeC Windows File Analyzer, which is free, and I believe it also provides you with quite interesting information.

Anyway… which OS are you investigating, and which is the path you found Thumbs.db in? I would also recommend you to make use of a Virtual Machine to prove any conclusion you reach.

You could also try vinetto, freeware tool (python script), that supports Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. Link Here
