Hi,
Was looking to start imaging my machines and starting to uncover what I can from each.
As i'm just starting, I do not have much money spare to purchase software, so would like to use Open Source, freeware and shareware software only.
Does anyone know of a list anywhere to help me get started? If not, would it be possible to post a list of some here?
Kind Regards
Minesh
Ps, I already have those from the downloads section here - was hoping for anything else which might help.
Minesh,
It might help if you could share what OSs you're working with…
Sorry, first and foremost, I will be working on XP, and then will move onto Vista and other Windows platforms. Dont know enough about Unix systems to work with them for a while.
Thanks
Should also take a look at opensourceforensics.org
You should check out my book, it covers a lot of freeware…
Windows Forensic Analysis
Thanks Harlen, but not much time for reading books atm, hence the hands on approach… hopefully soon though.
Still after a lot of analysis tools - have image itching to be looked at.)
Minesh,
It's not about reading a book…I was trying to answer your question.
Odd…you have no time to put into getting the information yourself, but expect others to put the time into giving you the information that's already out there…
Harlan
Minesh,
Harlan's books (He has 2 that I know of) include some useful scripts.
It is also a great reference to have handy.

Harlan,
I'm happy to read books when I have time to, but wont really have a chance to sit down with a book for a few months. If it was an ebook, would be a different story I guess.
I am grateful for your answer, and will loook into the book, but I prefer spending my time searching online (as I'm sure most here would) rather than reading a book.
I think I'll actually order it today, and have it ready.

It is…in fact, it was released as an ebook at the same time it was sent to the printer…
