The limits the possibilities somewhat, but if you go to www . toshibastorage . com, you'll see that Toshiba has numerous drives on their program. The self-encrypting hard drives (which I suspect is what earlier posters have referred to) are the MXxx61GSYG and MXxx61GSYD series. If the drive you are looking at is from another series, say the … GSYN, self-destruction is not an explanation that applies.

Just wanted to say thanks for the information posted here. Just run into a HP Elitebook with a Western Digital HD that was password locked.
