As previously mentioned in this thread you need to use the tools/methods found on iphoneinsecurity.com to take an image of the device and/or remove the handset lock code.

For best practice I would suggest taking an image of the device before removing the handset lock code as this will enable to you view the springboard.plist file prior to altering it for removing the passcode.

(This is based on the device being a 3G running 3.0+ not including 3.1.3)

Hi,

I have two iPhones that each of them is asking to connect to iTunes to be restored. I don't want to do that because I think that will delete the files on the phone.

I have done a lot of research and as I don't have an iPhone to play with I am unsure how best to proceed in my attempt to obtain data files.

I have not been able to obtain the firmware versions of either phone, and I think that needs to be my starting point.

There is a lot of software out there and I think that’s just confused me.

s this is a learning curve for me, any help will be greatly received,

Neil

Using the tools and methods found on iphoneinsecurity.com it is still possible to recover data from iPhones while they are in this state. I assume you have access to a Mac?

Are you in Law Enforcement? Feel free to to send me a message on here instead of posting on the boards.

Doug is that site for real and do they work for law enforcement/military? It just seems strange for a website to make the open qualifying statement that access to its site is based upon the individual having "arrest and search/seizure powers" and its for "police" and "military" only.

The UK police website http//mobileforensics.dyndns.info/forum/ is somewhat more discrete on its front page as to who may enter.

The site is 100% legitimate. It is the site for Jonathan Zdziarski's tools.

The site is locked down because he has made the tools available FOC to LE and Military personnel whose job role relates to the tools. He does charge for private individuals/companies, so wants to keep access restricted.

Doug I only ask about how "real" the person or people are running the website because of the website "status" requirement about legal "powers" of those who work in "law enforcement" and "military" only to have access when the "product" is sold into the hands of the private sector who themselves do not have the legal "powers" to meet the entrance requirements, at first instance. Is there another website for those that actually pay?

Also, for the x% of civilian population working with police, who do not have the legal "powers" to meet the criteria, are they excluded, too, from gaining entrance to the website?

Thank you Phoebe010 for pointing out
