I am currently doing a thesis about mobile phone evidence analysis. I desperately need testing data to evaluate the effectiveness of it. I am looking for case examples that can give me full set of all data streams from a mobile, including phone calls, SMS, emails etc. I can't create fake data because the evaluation will not be fair. I wonder if anyone can provide me some realistic data to test with. The data can be anonymous so privacy can be retained.

Many thanks

hi, I don't think many people will be willing to hand out evidence data as easily as you think.
one suggestion is, why don't you buy some phones from auction sites such as ebay. you may not have to spend alot esp on the old types of phones. With regards to newer smart phones, try asking family and friends.

I know it's not easy for people to give out evidence data like this. The reason I want real life data is because of the efficiency evaluation part. My research is about building a tool that will help in analytical process of evidences, something along the line of speeding up the process. To evaluate my tool, I need to compare the time spent to extract the related evidences manually and the time spent with the aid of my tool.

Does your educational institution not have a stock of handsets that they use for teaching, research, consultancy or previous project work. You'd be amazed what Unis have stashed away if you ask…I'd be suprised if they didn't.

Is it lawful where you live to purchase prepaid phones? If so, you may purchase a few and then plan your testing accordingly. This would allow for better variable control as you could initial a call to another test phone at specific times and end at specific times. The same would hold true to SMS or web usage across the test phones.

It may cost you a little money, but there should not be any legacy data from prior users if you are able to purchase brand new prepaid phones.

Sorry, I dont really understand.

You want full datastreams, meaning every packet in every layer of every protocol that runs through a mobile network? Basically they will look different in various implementations and different networks use different configurations and protocols for different parts of the network.

I think you should just create a valid sample from the different specifications of the protocols used to transfer everything. You will find them on their webpages.

etc.
