Upcoming LTE-A Pro (aka 5G) will arrive 2020. Inside a Mobile Broadband Network already today is a great amount of location intelligence as required for handover processes and traffic balancing.
Carriers (tech Operators) run Network Management Systems (NMS) to run self-optimizing antenna delegation and all kind of cell-offloading (to Wi-Fi e.g.). This net intelligence is
deep inside and not logged for LE appropriately. Depending on nation state regulations
boarder data (kind of meta data) of users are archived for Lawful Interception 6-12 month back.
Operator Net Intelligence (ONI) should be archived for at least 10 years as location data
of users is sensitive but non-content related. The location of a user is the most valuable
information absolutely. To proof "I was not there…" people will pay in the future to
escape media pranger destroying their personal reputation.
