As a lawyer, I often get CCTV footage with built-in Windows viewers. They're almost universally terrible, and I generally use a Mac. Has anyone heard of a Mac viewer than can read multiple CCTV formats?

Have you tried VLC. I only know the PC version but with a bit option setting, it does let you view many variations, including raw H264

Some codecs needed for playback of footage are proprietary and VLC (even though it is excellent) will not be able to play them.
I have often seen lawyers receive a DVD / CD of footage and the codec file included on the disc. This codec file will then have to be installed on a PC (or Mac) before it can play successfully.
