I am working on several MAC computers that each have 100's of files with the extension.xyz. The header is C2 1A 23 FF 00 - I am at a loss as to how I can view these files. FTK 3.1 and Encase 6.16 do not recognize them.
I have downloaded several viewers including Rapid Form Viewer, Jmol and XYZ_DV. None of them will view the files.
Can anyone tell me what these files are??
Thanks

The following if from filext.com
"The XYZ file type is primarily associated with 'Graph Coordinates'. A number of CAD programs work with .XYZ files which are comma delimited text files containing just xyz coordinates of points in space. The free program DXF2XYZ converts a DXF file to an XYZ file. Some other 3D scanners also use this format. RapidForm Free Viewer may be able to view them. "
Hopefully this helps.
Do you know which file on a MAC tells you what program is associated with extensions.
In Windows I can find this information in the registry.
Take a look at /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
I think they are user specific, so you may need to examine several, depending on circumstances.
Hope this helps
Ben
Please! It is Mac as in Macintosh. MAC is media access control.
If you look at the files in Encase you will see ._filename.xyz files that are the resource forks for the files. Take a look at these in hex and you may see information about the file creator application. wmmv.
