Massive copy and timestamps

It does sound like it would be very difficult to pick and choose which files and folders he should take when there are so many and with such folder depth.

A copy of the parent folder and then everything inside it is the most logical explanation. Even if I didn't want those 15 or so files I wouldn't exlude them during the copy because it's a major hassle.

Even if the files were open, had viruses in (so the AV program wouldn't let him copy them) etc, I would still expect the time stamps to be updated in a failed attempt to copy them.

Is there a possibility Windows crashed as it was copying the last 15 or so files and so didn't update the time stamps?
