Hi,
Anyone has used EnCase Enterprise V7 to acquire a smartphone (iPhone 4s)?
I tried to acquire but was faced with the error "Required Smartphone files are missing. Please reinstall." I am using version 7.05.02.
I'm trying to try it on version 7.06.
Thanks.
Hi,
Do you have iTunes installed? If not install iTunes (or reinstall iTunes)
To acquire an iPhone (or iPad) in EnCase 7 iTunes is required to be installed, but during acquisition NOT running.
Regards
I am trying to acquire an iphone 4s with iOS version7.1.2 using Encase v7.08.1, but am getting the error "Required Smartphone files are missing. Please reinstall". The iphone has iTunes installed and I believe I ensured that it is not running during acquisition, but am still getting the same error message.
Please help!
Itunes needs to be installed on the computer you are running Encase from.
Thank you very much Badgerau, I installed iTunes and it worked.
Another issue is that the iphone has 15GB of memory but Encase only acquired 4.2GB. Do you know the reason for this?
Thanks again.
Hi,
You probably did a _logical_ extraction of the iPhone 4S.
A physical extraction results in a size (of the extraction) that is close to the _memory capacity_ of the device. A logical extraction results in a size that is close to the _amount of data used_ on the device.

Johan
As a follow-up to this post and comments, has anyone encountered an issue while acquiring an iPhone with EnCase v7 receiving the error message "Smartphone Acquisition Error"?
I have installed and reinstalled iTunes. Additionally the iPhone I am attempting acquire does not have a passcode.
I am having the same issue when trying to acquire an iPad 3 as well. I suspect there is something right in front of me that I am missing.
I would appreciate any thoughts / recommendations.
Thanks you.
I don't use EnCase v7 for iOS acquisition, however assuming it is a logical extraction (backup) method; when you connect the iOS device to your workstation are you prompted with 'Trust This Computer?' & have you selected 'Trust'?
