Hello, i wondered if you guys could give us a hand with my mobile phone memory as you guys seem to know everything there is about recovery. What has happened is that when i was in Koh Tao( Thai island) there was a power outage whilst i was recharging my phone (Nokia N73) and when i next used it it would not recognise that i had a memory card in. The memory card is a 2gb Kingston mini sd memory card. There is many photos that i had taken when i was travelling around the world so it would be much appreciated for any advise given.

Regards

Darren

Darren, using apps like MediaRescue or those mentioned by keeper are useful.

The spec of your handset indicates you have 42Mb of internal memory and overall up to 1000 photos (3.2 megapixel) can be stored on the handset

http//www.nokia.co.uk/A4344232
"Memory Functions
- Up to 42 MB* internal dynamic memory for contacts, text messages, multimedia messages, ringing tones, images, video clips, calendar notes, to-do list and applications
- Support for miniSD memory card (hot swappable)
- Approx. memory capacity indication with 1GB miniSD memory card
- Video (MPEG4 CIF @ 15fps AAC audio) up to 175 min
- Photos (3.2 megapixel) up to 1000 photos
- Music (eAAC+) up to 1000 tracks"

You also mentioned that your N73 isn't recognising the miniSD card. Is this problem occurring with other miniSD cards/genuine Nokia cards you've tried or is it only with your current 2gb Kingston miniSD card?

if you want to recover the data from the memory card, there are large number of recovery tools available like photorecovery tools, file recovery tools, flash recovery tools etc., only thing is takeout the card from the phone, insert it in any card readers and apply these tools to recover the data.

thanks for the replys!

trewmte, I haven't tried any other min sd cards, but the thing is even when i put the mini sd card into an sd card adapter and try to read it on the laptop, its doesn't acknowledge that there is anything there. Any ideas?

Thanks again

Try with other adapter, try with other OS. (Perhaps the power outage fried the memory card.)

If the miniSD is not identifying itself as a 'write/read' device to external readers or the mobile phone in which it was used then it doesn't sound good.

It maybe as keeper stated it could be "fried". I am guessing at this stage, but if there is damage to the miniSD what damage may have been caused to the mobile phone miniSD card reader - none, hopefully?

To recover photos from memory cards I have had great success with a free program called PC Inspector smart recovery from CONVAR. Their website is http//www.pcinspector.de/Sites/smart_recovery/info.htm?language=1. The default language is German, but there is a drop down menu to select several languages. This program recovers pictures, audio, and video from removable media. They have a file recovery program, drive wiping program, and drive cloning program available for free also.

I plug my removable media to a card reader which is then plugged to my computer's USB port. I also enable write protect to prevent writing to the removable media.

Probably. Have you tried other adapter/card reader/OS/notebook ?
