In MS Word Properties- where does the "last saved by" name come from?

I believe its from the details entered when you run Word for the first time. There should be a dialogue box that appears asking for the initials/name of the user when Word runs for the first time.

Should be pretty easy to test with a clean Word install…

My understanding is the same as ddewildt.

You can see the current name by going to the Options in the Office application that you are interested in.

Remember also that you can manually edit this metadata entry, so whilst the default value is inserted based on the user settings at first use, the value could potentially be anything.

This info can also be set when the software is "pushed down" through network administrative install, and can also bet set to install silently, using preconfiguration information.

But, as others wrote, this is usually configured at install & can be later changed.

When you install Windows OS for the first time, at a certain moment you have to fill in a name and a company. When you install MS Office at a certain moment you have to fill in a name, company and serial number. By default the name and company of the Windows OS installation are filled in. If you don't change this, these default settings will taken.

So there are 2 possiblities
- either the name is the same name as given during the installation of Windows OS
- or the name is the name you filled in, changed the default settings, during the installation of MS Office.
