Does anyone know of a freeware or opensource program to open and read MSG files?

Thanks Douglas, I checked that out and it looks good. The probem, our agency does not come across these often and before we put out the money, I was looking for freeware or opensource first. If nothing comes our way, I'll check out MsgVierer. Thanks again.

MSG files are Microsoft Compound File Binary so you can view them with any viewer that will open these types of files.

I like Mitec's Structured Storage Viewer which is free.

As long as you do not have too many msg files to look at you can manage it with SSView. Of the msg files I have looked at the streams are always given the same name so you will find the header has a name substg1.0_007D001E and the body substg1.0_1000001E.

It is a free workaround for a small number of messages.

Sorry - shot that out and meant to mention there is a freeware "lite" version as well. The MiTech program has been good for us as well.
