Hello,

I just started my first internship working in Digital Forensics and I was assigned a task to install and learn EnCase v7. We have received multiple dongles to use. I was curious to know how to install them and be able to use multiple dongles on any Examiner work station.

I have googled how to do this but cant find anything. I emailed customer service also, but they are taking a while to get back to me.

Any insight would be helpful.

You only need one dongle per computer. The EnCase installer installs the dongle driver and associated license manager software.

Hi Shawn,

You should only connect one EnCase dongle to your computer at any one time.

I believe the issue that you are facing is that you are unable to use more than one EnCase dongle on a single computer and launch EnCase as a licensed copy.

The fix is fairly simple, you don't have to reinstall EnCase to do so.

To launch EnCase as a licensed copy, you will need to take note of a few things.
1) You need the physical EnCase dongle connected to the computer (unless it's a NAS license)
2) You need to ensure that you have the .cert file (sent by myaccount@guidancesoftware.com) reside in the cert folder (i.e C\Program Files\EnCase7\Certs\)
3) You are running an EnCase version which your SMS (Software Maintenance Service) covers.

Your solution to the problem is to get all respective .cert files of all dongle licenses and place them in the cert folder.

After you done so, you will be able to use EnCase as licensed copy when you connect any of your EnCase dongle.

It is also possible that not all of those dongles are EnCase dongles.

One can tell a forensicator by the quantity of dongles dangling from their lanyard.

FYI - for all of those who have EnCase dongles, hold on to them when upgrading to e-license.
