Hi All

Just wondering if any of you guys out there in the forensic community would find this little tool useful that my cousin wrote.

It's a MySpace Visualizer (mapping tool) that will take a person's public profile from MySpace and create a visual diagram of the connections between that person and their "top friends".

Here's the blurb from his website that best describes the tool.

"It automatically builds the connections between friends without the investigator having to manually click between profiles, it allows the investigator to visually see connections between people without having to build a graph of these connections themselves, it builds connections to a person that might not have been available by just viewing their “top friends” and it provides a nice diagram that can be added to a case file and used in court. While it could be used to link suspected predators to their targets and drug dealers to their contacts, it would be especially useful
in linking the MySpace profiles of gang members. It creates a visual network of connections based on a single point profile within the gang"

he's now developed it as a standalone downloadable tool or it can be used with limitations from the website.

Further info found here -
http//www.lococitato.com/myspacevisualizer/index.html

He's also got a Bebo Friend Mapper that works online with Java.

Any feedback on its use or future requests/changes then I can pass them on just email me or send a PM

regards

Chris

How does this work if you're not a MySpace Friend of the 'suspect'?

Its my understanding that this will only work by taking the "suspects" top friends on MySpace and plots their connections and the connections of these people and on and on for upto 75 people. Not all connections will be visible on the map.
First, only the person's top friends will be plotted, Secondly, the map can only make connections that are available to the public, if a profile is set to private, it can't connect to it.

The tool can make connections to a private profile if someone else on the MySpace map has the person with the private profile as one of their top friends in that other persons publicly available profile.

I know the tool has its limitations because of this aspect but for those that have public available profiles then this tool can help with the mapping connections and not having to click on each friend link.

It gets quite mesmerising to watch doesn't it … 😯

<breaks self away>

Very neat, ran a test against a mate's page and it built a pretty reliable graph as I would see it.

It did throw up a few "Invalid URL" errors as the graph progressed, but hey - you get what you pay for - free trials are just that.

Interesting tool ! D
