Hello everyone,

We have samsung galaxy 4 i9500 with pattern lock, however, usb debugging is not enabled so we can not get into phone by forensic tools like UFED, XRY, nor by the flasher boxes like SPT box and z3xbox. These tools all require the usb debugging enabled.

We have made extensive research on the issue, however there seems to be no working solution which safely removes the lock also keeping the contents intact.

Here are the methods which we know already but can't use

1- hard reset we ant use it as it wipes the contents.
2- forensic products like UFED, xry we can't use them as they require usb debugging.
3- flashber boxes like spt box or z3box we can't use them as they require usb debugging.
4- user's gmail account details we dont have the details of the user's gmail account and password.

So, as you see current methods do not seem to work for this situation. So, is there any other way which may let us to get into phone in a forensically sound way?

Thanks.

Yunus

Hi Yunus,

I can tell you that the XRY R&D Team at www.msab.com are working on this model at present.

We hope to have a solution for you relatively soon, but it is always difficult to predict precisely when that will be ready for release. But hopefully it shouldn't be longer than a couple of months until a solution is ready for this particular chipset in a forthcoming release of XRY.

Hi,

Could you share which UFED version are you using? The latest UFED Touch or UFED4PC 3.0.9.2 supports Boot loader, Physical Extraction for GT-i9500 (Galaxy S4). There is no need for you to know the screen lock password.

There is no need to wait for any developer to finish their job. D

Do PM me if you have any problem. Thank you.

As mentioned Cellebrite UFED Touch and UFED 4PC has this model supported for physical extraction more than 6 months with lock bypass using its boot-loader method.

Coming UFED 4.0 release will add many more models with lock bypass using new methods.

I don't know about the expensive tools, but there's a manual method bypassing pattern lock without USB debugging enabled from recovery which often works with Galaxy devices.

Download latest available flashable custom recovery (.tar-file; TWRP is a good choice) and flash it via Odin or flasher box.
Copy 'pattern password disable' file from my link to Sdcard, insert Sdcard in Galaxy and flash zip through recovery, restart device. Pattern should be gone, if propmted it will take any input.

… and flash zip through recovery.

Nice ) , though it doesn't sound particularly "forensic sound". ?
