VMWare has released a new tool, VMWare converter, that – accordingly to what they say – is able to convert a physical machine running windows to a virtual one. It supports a few image formats (Symantec Backup, Norton Ghost), although unfortunately the main forensic image formats are not supported. It can be dowloaded from http//www.vmware.com/converter

Cheers,

Or just use Liveview to create a VM out of a DD image. Then use VMworkstation to import the created VM.

There is another one called "Platespin" as well - very good for converting real, live machines to VM Images …

Maybe something to consider for "live" aquisitions …

This is the free version of P2V (Physical to Virtual), which works really nice.

I've been using Live View for the last few days to try it out and is seems to be very good.
