VMWare has released a new tool, VMWare converter, that – accordingly to what they say – is able to convert a physical machine running windows to a virtual one. Or just use Liveview to create a VM out of a DD image. Then use VMworkstation to import the created VM.
There is another one called "Platespin" as well - very good for converting real, live machines to VM Images …
Maybe something to consider for "live" aquisitions …

I've been using Live View for the last few days to try it out and is seems to be very good.
