iecompatmol.fi

That looks like a Finnish labour exchange / employment agency

iecompatskatteverket.se
iecompatsebank.se

And that's the Swedish IRS, followed by a Swedish bank.

Could it be anything related to the IE Compatibility View List? An update? (A very rough Googling suggests that happens monthly.)

Same second.

Are they ALL exactly the same second, or are a lot the same second and then another lot the following second and so on?

They are all the exact same second.
It seems you think this evidence of an unusual occurance.

Could this be evidence of antiforensic software?

What effect on windows would this have. As was pointed out in the previous post, these are not files that have anything to do with my case other than their possible effect on windows.

Don't put words in my mouth. You have provided limited information and I am trying to understand what is going on based on a fraction of the information that I would normally have.

Frankly the LAST thing I would think about is anti-forensics or tampering, but I do keep an open mind. Mostly there is a normal explanation.

You haven't answered Harlans qustions…

Are they all in one place? Are they scattered throughout the system?

Did you create a timeline of system activity?

Are they all in the same fodler, or in folders all below a given folder - could you give us file paths?

You say many thousands - how many thousands, is it 3200 as you mentioned at one point?

How big are the files? are they all large, all small or an even spread of small and large files. Are the files all the same type?

How fast was the disk to which they were written? was it a RAID, old SATA drive? SSD?

FYI I was able to extract 1500 small files from a zip archive using winrar and all the files had exactly the same created date and time (whether the time stamp is maintained is a winrar option)

Forgive my ignorance. I have it in abundance -) I am trying to understand. I should have more clearly asked your opinion.

The are all ie files. All 3200. All happened in the same second so they appear to be in the same place.
The computer is from 2003 and I believe the drives are SATA.

I really do appreciate your help.

Searles

You will help yourself (and us) if you answer all the questions that are asked - please go back through the thread and answer those questions that I and others have asked that you haven't yet answered.

Any answer or opinion based on partial information is likely to be wrong.

Just in case, Standard Litany

Also note that problem reports that you deliberately distort will yield an incorrect diagnosis and very probably an ineffective remedy.
