Has anyone played with ntfs-3g? Just wondering your thoughts in respect to imaging in linux (dcfldd, dc3dd, etc..) and writing to a ntfs partition vs. ext2?

File fragmentation, r/w speed, issues, etc..? Just thinking this may be a nice alternative to ext2??

Kind Regards,

David

I use external drives formatted as NTFS to save the image acquired in Linux. No issues really. Subjectively I can't see any difference. ntfs-3g allows rw to ntfs partition and not optimised for performance. When working with external drives connected via USB or FW 400/800 you can't really tell the difference.

I was having issues with very large number of files (> 500000) when ntfs-3g was unable to grow MFT. I do not know if it is resolved in the current version.
