As much as I hate to admit it, I've purchased Vista 64 bit for my forensics platform (I should have went with Server 2003 or similar), but hindsight is 20/20.

That being said, I know Microsoft has done some things with Vista (as evidenced by the requirement to have a ton of RAM), and I'm looking for a way to optimize/reduce services for Vista that can lead to a quicker processing time on my Mac Pro.

Anyone have a checklist, or some place to start? I've disabled indexing, sleep mode, etc.

Chris

TweakHound is a good place to start.

I ended up with Server 2K3 Enterprise 32-Bit with 24GB RAM. FTK never ran better. And far better than on XP or Vista.

Yeah,
Server 2003 Enterprise is my favourite forensic platform. I recently set up one Vista 64-bit machine for forensic purposes, and I don’t really like it due to performance and software compatibility issues. A lot of tweaking is required to get it running as it should.
