I understand that OS X Mail stored emails in .mbox files up until the release of Mac OS X Tiger 10.4, at which point Apple changed the default file type to .emlx.

I also recall that the .mbox used by OS X Mail is not the same as the traditional Unix type.

Has any one tried recovering deleted emails from either of these file formats? Similar to a "Recover my Email" on a PST file?

EMLX files are just a single e-mail per file, so you wouldn't have a scenario like in the PST world where you would recover e-mails. However, you could find deleted EMLX files on a computer just like any other deleted file.
