I have dozens of OST files from a case and cannot parse them with any of the tools typically used to get to this data. All of the files have the standard OST signature but all tools return an error message indicating the file's are not OST. The same thing happened to me a week ago but since there was another copy of the email account in a similarly named file NAME(2).ost I chalked it up to corruption. This time I have a lot of these files which makes me suspicious.
When I do a keyword search in EnCase using the 'Outlook Compressible Encryption' code page for the custodians email address, it turns up thousands of hits. I can also see references to attached files.
I'm hoping to get some ideas here on what may be causing this issue. I've listed the tools I've used to try to convert and/or repair the OST files.
Systools OST Repair
Stellar Phoenix - o********t
EnCase
ScanPST.exe
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
It worked! I'll purchase the software in order to save the file to PST format - your help is invaluable!! Thanks!!!
Quick update…
Turns out the "problematic"OST's were generated through Outlook 2013.
Give advanced exchange recovery a try. its a bit pricey but works wonders at convering ost files to readable pst file and or repairing corrupt pst files
