Hi, just running through potential packages for cell phone forensics. I am considering Oxygen Forensic Suite 2 as a secondary option. Does anyone here have any opinions or experience of this package?

I did a training class on it during Moblie Forensics World in Chicago a couple of months ago. The software is pretty nice, however I've tried once or twice to use it in the real world (only on my iPhone mind you) and wasn't very successful. However it does cover a lot of different phones. The bonus was the CEO and CTO were the ones who did the actual training.

I have been using this suite for roughly 2 months now.

It is a great tool to have in your arsenal. The reporting function is rather limited however.

On the positive side there are a number of things which it does IMO better than other tools.

It extracts the lifeblog from Symbian handsets including the geotagging data which you can take to the manufacturers website and use the coordinates to show you the position on google maps which a SMS was sent/received, a picture was taken etc. This information can be rather useful.

I have also been on a training course for it here in the UK both the CEO and CTO as CdtDelta says which was good. There is a lot of support for smart phones as this is their focus. Limited support for the old run of the mill phones, but hey you probably have a tool which works with them fine.

Hope the information is useful. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask further.

Thanks guys! Really useful! I agree about limited reporting having seen the demo.

Hi guys -)
My name is Oleg Fedorov, I'm the CEO of Oxygen Software.

I will be glad to hear what we shoud improve in reporting section to make it more usable for you?
We're also open for any other suggestions and feature requests. It's very important for us to hear the notes from the real customers of our Forensic Suite.

Thank you in advance!

P.S. CdtDelta, there were problems with connecting iPhone devices having iTunes 8.x installed. Therefore we released an update two weeks ago (version 2.2.0.100). I would suggest you to download this update, it works fine with all iTunes version starting from 7.7.

I use Oxygen Forensic Suite 2 and find it very good. Its especially good for examining Symbian handsets with regards to the LifeBlog or examining the file structure should your investigation call for it.

One issue I have I can never upload the Blackberry agent…

Any suggestions Mr. Fedorov as to why this may be?

Regards,

KVS379

I use Oxygen forensics suite since november 2008 when my lab purchased a license for it (i was the one suggesting it ^^) and it resulted a great purchase and a really good software.

the way the developers keep in contact with customers and respond to their feedback is also one of the key element of this software house and product.

I asked for the feature about cellID database to be manually consulted and they added that feature on the customer area of their website in less then 2 months.

so now i'll try again asking for support the samsung SGH-Z240 phone pleeeeeeeaaaseee D"

i dunno why but i had to deal with more then one of this old phones and analyzing them is a pain in the ….. )

having this phone supported would be great.
even if i know that it's so rare that spendig resources for supporting it may become a waste of time.

sorry for my bad english ^^

Thank you for your kind words.

Could you please send me more details to my e-mail address - adm@oxygensoftware.com?
There may be several reasons of this behaviour, one of them - BB security policy. Usually, if the Agent can't be loaded by Oxygen Connection Wizard, we do not recommend to manually load it, because, with certain combination of BB security settings, the manual upload of any 3rd party app can wipe the BB data permanently.
So we should handle this situation with care.

P.S. Because of the fact above we're currently reworking the acquisition process for BB's.

Thanks for the positive feedback about our software.
What about the SGH-Z240 - are you ready to help us in some testing with it? If so we can try to add support for this device -)
