Hi Folks.. Paraben is allowing a FREE download of their Image Mounting software (Think MIP).. BUT… it seems the catch..and it may just be me…but you are limited to their Proprietary uncompressed image format..

If you check out the web page it supports all the Usual formats but not sure if its a Demo limitation … Once again Paraben Perplexes me…

Any Ideas?

Downloaded last week but haven't used it as it is only 32bit. Might play around with it today in a VM to see if i get the same limitations. Bummer to see it only 32 and not 64 supported.

No kidding, right?

I downloaded P2X and ran it. You're right, the only source option available is the proprietary Paraben format, PFR…even though during the installation, you see something about "full version".

When I was done with the app, I opened the Control Panel to remove it, and in the Add/Remove Programs applet, it clearly says "p2Xplorer Full Version".

When launched, you STILL have to deal with ads. When you try to load an image, you STILL have to deal with the default behavior of the app calculating an MD5 hash.

I'm not sure why this app is made available in the face of things like ImDisk, VDK, LiveView, etc.

The only benefit of a Tool like this is ease of use AND reported compatibility with numerous Image types like E01… without that..yes.. there are lots of options out there with no ad's..

I'll admit, when I saw the word "Free" I went to check out the site. There's a line at the bottom that says that the demo only works with the proprietary format in a non-encrypted uncompressed state.

..Yeah..saw that.. but are we Downloading the DEMO or the FULL version..? since you can't buy the Full Version I thought…well.. Not sure what I thought at this point..
…They "gave away" an earlier version of the software that Did Mount E01's etc..a few years ago at IACIS.. so I was thinking it would be the same deal…

Yes, there is…but nothing at the beginning of the page, nor on the download page, says that you're downloading the demo. In fact, as I mentioned, when it's installed, it's not identified as a demo…instead, it's called "Full Version".

So what's the point of a tool that can only be used to mount a proprietary image format, includes ads, automatically calculates an MD5 hash *before* presenting you with the mounted drive letter, and has nothing that specifies that the image is mounted read-only?

Not sure about the recently released version… But you are "semi" correct. The downloaded version (v2 i think) only mounts the proprietary format until you license it. Register an account on their site and generate a license (it is free). The software will then unlock and allow you to mount E01 files.
