If someone knows the password is 10 characters long… they also probably know the password. Try some social engineering and just ask for it! -)
Greetings,
Let me put this another way - if I was the instructor for a course that assigned this sort of project, I would want you to figure it out on your own. There are many articles on password cracking out there. It is very much something you can read on the books.

You are a hater, David.

Yep, evil, nasty, hater. Grrrr……

Do not try to hide Mr. Kovar. I read your comments re NC v Cooper… twisted
To, Shgh, the OP.
When you do find the password, can you come back and tell us the solution.
Kind of curious now.
The password has more than likely been used for something else… hint facebook, messenger, stored in browser passwords etc )
The simplest answer is normally the correct one 😉 There are loads of free tools/research papers out there to help you recover/decrypt these passwords but if you get stuck I made a little tool that can help you. PM me if you require it.
Hi,
The task was easier than I thought.
I received a tips about testing a number of password lists, but I have not found any such which also contains Swedish characters (å, ä, ö), but I tried the English lists, and it worked and I could access the information in a PDF file so the task is resolved. )
I've got an idea also to fix a password list that contains Swedish characters, so I'll fix this later.
I've also got a tip to that instead to access the password to the file, I can get around by using the weaknesses (vulnerabilities) in the software itself, in this case Acrobat Reader.
Now I keep on collecting information about security holes in Acrobat Reader and then test to see if it works.
Thank you all

If the file is encrypted with AES then it would seem unlikely to me that there are any big holes, as AES is pretty solid. Assuming they have correctly implemented AES. If they hadn't correctly implemented AES I think it would have already been discovered.
