Anyone plan on going to the PFIC this year? I plan on going to my first in a couple of weeks and I'm curious to see how many others have made plans for it. Any feedback from years prior would be great too.

I'm looking forward to attending PFIC this year since I've never been to a DFIR conference before. I can't provide any feedback but there were a few threads in the Win4n6 yahoo group talking about PFIC 2011 and 2010. To see the conversations use the following Google search

sitegroups.yahoo.com/group/win4n6/ pfic

I can tell you whatever you would like to know, I've been.

The speakers are very good and are organized in 40 minute to 1 hour to stay on the topic of updating since something came out i.e. (they may be speaking about Windows 8 Dev pack or Jump list) as opposed to Windows 8 as a whole

The price is incredibly low, considering the number of days with food, with a booze filled party towards the end where everyone sits around and lies about how they acquired a petabyte server and who's hard drive is bigger, you know the type of examiner.

Each conference is broken down into tracks, so pick a track which you like and you will get little vouchers which you put in your lanyard, as you attend the class give the person at the door your voucher and then sit down and enjoy.

The speakers are all people you have either heard of, or people you will respect and that know their stuff. There is enough of a break where you can ask questions afterwards and there are plenty of networking opportunities.

There is a main speaker and a casino night, at the casino night, you win chips and then take the chips and turn them in for tickets, write your name on the back of tickets and then bid on items like write blockers, software, etc.

Also for some fee (don't remember off top of my head) you can take an additional course before the conference starts, and the ones I took were P2 Commander and another one. What I do remember is that there were 4 or 5 courses this year and only 1 of the bunch was Paraben specific all the others were Apple forensics, Expert testimony, Windows Forensics, etc.

I have never heard anything bad at all about PFIC, (strike that your honor, I did hear "man this pizza is kinda cold" I've gone back to their conference and it does seem to be one of the few which tries to remain neutral training while still allowing you to take their training courses on their software if you like.

But show them some love at the end, they never pressure you into buying Paraben stuff (and you get a nice swag bag), . I own a few of their items and they have come in handy.

Anyway, sorry for the long answer. If I can help you more you can PM me or ask on here.

Thanks for the feedback, it sounds like I made a good decision in signing up for this. I also registered for one of the boot camps that take place before the conference starts, so hopefully that will be worth the cost of an extra day in Park City.
