In what context ? A lot of the big "accountancy" firms such as Deloitte, PWC etc. will have forensic divisions.

IBM does as well for example, and I would imagine that you could probably look at any of the other large computer services guys - HP etc. and they would be similar.

In terms of large firms doing _only_ forensics … I don't know really, QCC in London is pretty big … But then they do other Information Security stuff as well …

Disklabs also spring to mind and a Google search …

Give us a bit more context to work with -) and we might be better able to answer …

IBM is not a "big forensics firm". They have a team that does emergency IR and CF work, but they do not have a bunch of folks who just do forensics.

Bad spacing there making it not quite clear …

Like I said - the question isn't entirely clear, as I wouldn't exactly consider Deloitte as a "private forensic firm" either … So I guess what the OP was asking was

"Which large companies have a forensic capability that if you have enough money you can get ?"

-) IBM fits that bill by my reckoning -)

as it seems does IBM management from their website …

"In addition, our experts can assist with computer forensic analysis, discovery and litigation to help you find and prosecute perpetrators of information security breaches."

There's always Kroll, Guidance, Accessdata. Jet Blue has a forensics division last time I checked so you may want to look at airlines. Insurance companies commonly have the in house capacity as well. I guess it depends on what you're looking for…

I forgot to mention..the large banking companies have forensics divisions as well.

Kroll and Guidance seem to be pretty big, and one of the major US temp agencies had a position posted for a consultant who whould have been developing a regional forensics lab and practice…but don't rule out corporate internal forensics/e-discovery teams. I've been in internal corporate forensics for four years, coming from a private not-for-profit HMO that started with one staff member and grew to six in three years, and moved recently to another shop that has two now. Any US company with an eye toward litigation is likely to have an e-discovery/shop. Several that I talked with were very interested in developing a forensics capability they could hire out to subsidiaries/partners.

From my recent experience in the job market, I'd say many large corporations either have or are seriously thinking about developing an internal forensic capability. One of the nice things about going with an internal corporate forensic team - as opposed to one of the teams that does consulting lilke Guidance, AD, Kroll, Deloitte or a host of others, is the comparative lack of travel.

Not only do I like to have my cake, and eat it too - I like to eat it at home. I like being involved in HTCIA and other organizations, which I didn't have the time to do previously. Your priorities may vary depending on where you're at in your career, but 25-50% travel (what you can expect from any of the big outfits that does forensic consulting) is a bit much for me at this point.

Just my .02 worth…

I agree with that travel comment, I am just starting out in the field and was looking around at private companies to get a good foot in the door. Start off at a firm solid company and grow from there
