Hello, i have an Image from an backup with thousands of tiff images that i want carve out…

first try was scalpel where the carved out files get most 200mb and the hard disk is full at nearly 3000 files.
I coupled scalpel with an iwatch script to compress the tiff into g4 format.
but here is the problem why scalpel doesnt work…
scalpel creates many files an closed them reads some other files opend the old files again, closed them…. the tif compression make datawaste.

foremost reads the files file by file and write them. that works nice with my iwatch script.
my problem is that the config ignore filesizes bigger than 100mb. the compression got an eof in many files. i think thats why scalpel make them bigger.

when i run foremost the file offset getting bigger file by file and the filesize shrinks…

any help please.

As far as I know, the 3e parameter in the ini file is the file size and this can be set as large as you like till either it finds a footer or it reaches the given limit.
File extention - case sensitive - file size (default 200k) - header - footer

Have you tried Photorec ?

http//www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

Seems to be maintained and updated more than foremost and scalpel are.

Hopefully it helps. )
