Procedure for wiping old evidence media

Wow, this forum is amazing in its responsiveness!

Nope, it is not hard to write most of our clients a letter asking if we are free to delete their information. I was just confused as to how long to wait after the forensic report before such a letter would be sent out. Thanks to all of your replies I now understand that archive retention periods for evidence hard drives (or more specifically the data stored on them) are decided on a case-by-case basis.

As Douglas mentioned, I will most likely add to our forensic agreement a section along the lines of "final disposal and destruction of client data will require a signature from the client".
