Wow I should borrow the unit he used for testing. He's had much better luck with his unit than I have had with mine. I can use mine for thumb drives and that's about it.

It just will not work with a USB bus powered device (and that's confirmed by Wiebetech).

(caveat - I have not tested it on an external powered USB drive yet)

Greetings,

I started writing a review of one and had issues as well. Wiebetech is coming out with a new dual headed cable so one USB port will power the device and the other port will power the drive you're imaging. They're sending me the cable and I'll write a review after it arrives.

I also had problems getting the required drivers to install. I'd not count on stealthily using this on some other system.

One thing not well covered in the review is what exctly is blocked is everything that is not known to be a safe command blocked, or is everything not known to be an unsafe command let through?

In the latter case, some encryption tools may still change the device, as they use commands that are not mass-storage related. Logging into, say, a SanDisk Cruzer or Kingston DataTraveller Secure, would be possible in one scenario (with the possibility of lockout), and impossible in the other. I think.

The comment to the review suggests, though, that the blocking may be of the second type.

The manual also makes it clear that there's a 2.2TB limit, due to USB driver limitations. The note in the users manual that shutting down the device witout ejecting the connected disk can result in data loss is a little confusing and possibly a little worrying, though. I hope they mean on the computer end …
