I am having problems that the PTK toolkit does not display the left menu when I add an image. I am able to add the image and it recognizes the filesystem (ntfs) however I only have the case frame and the add image frame. I am not able to see any other links to perform any other analysis.

I have tried switched users to the root and the same thing occurs plus i have used different browser and it still happens.

Autospy works fine and I can create a timeline so I do not think it is the image.

Does anyone have any insight or have this same problem occur with PTK?

Actually looking at screen shots it is the top menu bar that displays all the analysis tools that is missing.

Bump….

I have had this same problem. Autopsy also works for me, but no PTK. Any advice would be great.

I have tried it in Ubuntu as well as this workstation.
Thanks.

Which version of PTK and Ubuntu have you tried?

I have had PTK 1.05 running quite nicely in Ubuntu 10.04, but it took some 'tweaking' to achieve smooth results.

I used a standard install of both Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server versions, then used

sudo apt-get install lamp-server^

to take care of the various pre-requisites. Note the "^" is not a typo!

I have also used the standard versions of lib-ewf, afflib, sleuthkit and autopsy from the repositories, as well as installing them from source myself.

I seem to recall that I had some regexp edits to make to a some of PTK's config files, and some folders to 'chown', when I installed it with Ubuntu.

If any of these issues sound familiar let me know and I will dig out more details on them and post here.

More to address the original post about menus disappearing; I sometimes found the contents of the browser window running PTK went funny. I found that a 'refresh' of the page often fixed this. Might be worth a try. don't be surprised if it asks you to log in again though!

Hope this helps

Ben
