I have been tasked with creating an in-service course to teach non-forensic officers how to handle electronic evidence. I realize the best approach is probably don't touch anything until the forensic guys (gals) arrive, however that is not always the practical approach.

This in-service has to meet two criteria keep it around/under two hours and KISS. While some of the younger generation think they know computers/gadgets, this often gets them in as much trouble as the older generation that wants nothing to do with computers/gadgets. So my audience is pretty broad.

The reason for this training is based on a recent issue that I cannot elaborate on in this post.

I would love to hear any stories that I can sanitize and use, what procedures are used by your department or any other tidbits you can divulge.

Of course ->insert fine print here-> PMs are great, names will be changed to protect the innocent or guilty, I am not responsible for blindness caused by reading this post, if you are cranky because it is hot where you are working and the AC is down, sorry, but I would love to hear your story anyway, do not post a message from your Blackberry or iPhone while driving and blame me because you crashed in to someone, I am not responsible . . .

Thanks to those that sent SOPs and stories. And thanks for the links to some good articles. Rest assured, all stories will be sanitized and kept strictly confidential.
