There are solutions available but you have a forensic tool at your disposal and that would be the best course of action.

One free app that comes to mind to get into the iPhone root directory is iPhone Explorer - http//www.iphone-explorer.com/

If the phone is jailbroken/unlocked, you should be able to access all files on the iPhone by using this app, including application data, address book and a lot more.

i have same trouble to read (all) data out from a iphone 3g. we use win/xp and oxygen foresic suite, phone connect via usb-cable, phone have no password.

Do you have iTunes installed on your PC?

If so, please specify iTunes version and iPhone firmware version you have.

Did you confirm the license agreement in iTunes after its installation?

Did you ever successfully connect iPhone to iTunes?

What version of Oxygen Forensic Suite 2010 is installed?

Yes it work's fine - but the installation with windows, itunes and same other tools is not easy. it's windows ;(
