DBXtract is a free tool that extracts all mail and news messages from Outlook Express 5/6 DBX files. It can be downloaded from the following site:

The above link will download version 4.5 - there is a newer version called DBXpress but it is not free. The homepage for DBXtraxt and DBXpress is:

In terms of analysis of mail archives there is little competition against Mailbag assistant as long as you aren't going after Outlook Personal Folders (PST's) or AOL archives when you need other tools and we see a lot of variation in performance.
