Hello,

I am in the process of starting up a small forensics company. I will not have any employees, just myself and another person. I am trying see if anyone has any thoughts on the amount of Errors and Omissions insurance one would need? My first quote was for an umbrella coverage of $250.000.

For those of you who have your own company, is there an amount that your customers have requested that you carry? And what amount have you thought would be an okay amount of coverage.

Thanks for your input.

Greetings,

A common number is $1 million. When subcontracting, I've often been asked to provide proof of this much coverage.

Since Georgia requires PI licensing, and since many states PI licensing laws require you to carry a certain amount of coverage, perhaps that's a good starting point.

I'm assuming that the ATL in your location block means Atlanta Georgia.

If you get a client who requires a greater amount of coverage, you can always scale up if needed. I know of situations where in response to a client's requirement for a certain amount of coverage, the company simply raised their coverage.

Almost ALL of my clients require 1,000,000/2,000,000. It will cost about $1400 for this. If you need a name and number let me know.
