Can someone clarify an issue that I have recently had with a colleague of mine. There is what appears to be a direct link to a website on one of my computers on my network. It is prefixed by the abbreviation `REDR´. Is it true that this could be 100% due to Websense blocking the attempt to access the site or could it be for some other reasons? For example could it appear because the web page is on another domain and the site has actually attempted to redirect the computer or could it be due to a Web bug? Basically I want to be able tostat categorically that an internet URL has been visited intentionally, is this the case? My colleague believes that this is on the index.dat file because the website was actively placed in the address part of internet exployer. Is there any other possibilities?

Ian
I could type pages and pages on the subject of REDR entries.
Basically REDR entries within an INDEX.DAT file relate to server side redirects, i.e. a server saying to the browser in the HTTP repsponse that the requested page is at another location. This is indicated by an HTTP status code in the region 300-399.
The REDR entry will reflect the URL whcih resulted in the 300-399 response, so this is the URL which CAUSED the redirect, and not where the browser was redirected to.
In laymans terms does that mean that a person has had to directly type in the website into the address bar on their internet browser or is there another explanation? I am begining to question the notion that someone has intentionally put the www. address. I posted the question to Websense and they have stated;
The Websense Block message uses an HTTP 301 packet to redirect client computers to Websense to display block messages. Websense also uses TCP RST (non-HTTP requests) to Block traffic from source and destination computers. Websense hasn't used TCP-REDR packets to redirect traffic as of yet.
Can someone explain this to me please. Craig you seem to know what you are talking about. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks
Ian
Can you post the actual URL? That might help so I can see what is happening.
If you don't want to post it here for all to see you can email me at
