Would appreciate any opinions on reliable 1TB drives. One bad personal experience of a 1TB drive failure and hearing many other similar stories leave me a tad hesitant of going over 750GB at present.

Thanks.

We have a few of the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drives (model 1001FALS) that have worked for us. To my knowledge, we have not had one fail (except when it's hooked up to a Firefly, but that's an issue with the Firefly and not the drive itself).

Id second Western Digital, Green Power RAID editions to be precise. I've actually experienced far more problems with 750's than with 1tb drives.

I have a couple of 1TB Western Digital hard disk drives myself. By a couple I mean 5, and they are all working perfectly.. so far.. ?

Last month I bought 4 x Western Digital 1TB Green Power drives and made a RAID. Too early to say if reliable, but I like the way the 750 drives stay cool.

I read through this and read some user reviews of the Seagate 7200.12 drives. Looking at those for my new rig this week. Probably do 3-4 in a RAID.

I've got RAIDs set up with the WD and with the Samsung Spinpoint F1 and I'm happy with the performance of both. I have had problems with some f my Dell machines though, which seem to have issues with any disk over 750GB.

WD has always been my drive of choice, for data recovery, parts are easy to find and in general they are stable drives. A week or so ago I bought 4 1.5TB Segate Free Agent Xtreemes. I use them in acquisitions at client sites. They are very reliable thus far but are not shock resistant. I've had one slide off of a tower resulting in the click of death.

We've found Lacie drives quite good. Esp with eSata on them. We tend to go for Maxtors as a 1st choice.
